Le sport au primaire
Hello to the readers! I am Kathleen Antoine and I am also the new sport teacher at the Lycée Labourdonnais (primary section). As an enthusiastic and dynamic sports and physical education teacher committed in promoting lifelong learning physical activities and health among the students, it is for me a passion to work with the school and bring a positive energy to the students and staff members.
My role is to challenge and encourage the students to engage in physical activity, to inspire team building through several activities, sports and games so that they can take the best out of it, such as teamwork, trustworthiness, self-respect and respect for others, and good leadership.
The sports classes continue to be done in English which really helps in the students’ development in this area. As said before, this gives them an extra hour in this field while doing what they enjoy. During the sports classes, they do not only practice the activities and communicate in English as they also learn about the equipment, the different environment of every sport and the strategies and techniques in this language which leads to a great range of English words.
I am also engaged in swimming and water safety classes from CP to CE2. As a sport teacher, it is very important for me to encourage the students to swim and learn about water safety, survival and lifesaving. The purpose of the swimming and water safety sessions will help them to build up their ability and confidence in swimming and safe self-rescue. With research showing that students who do not learn swimming at primary school are more likely to become one of the one in five adults unable to swim, efforts are ongoing to ensure that all of them earn their water wings.
One of my favorite part in being the sport teacher is to organize sport events such as the sport day, tournaments and the interclasses which was held this year for the first time. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the environment in which it has taken place; joyful, wonderful teamwork and cooperation and lots of fun and motivational shouting. As a whole my debuts since I first started here in the school as a sport teacher and also as a continuous learner – because we teachers never stop learning! –, was really amazing and I am looking forward for it to continue.
